What is Proton Therapy?
Proton therapy, also known as proton beam therapy, is an advanced form of radiation treatment that uses proton beams to target tumor cells. Unlike conventional photon radiation, proton beams have a distinctive Bragg Peak, allowing the treatment team to concentrate radiation more precisely.
Using specialized equipment such as synchrotrons or cyclotrons, protons are accelerated and guided toward the tumor. They release relatively little energy before reaching the target, then deliver most of their dose at the planned depth, helping limit radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
