What is Proton Therapy?
Proton Therapy (Proton Beam Therapy) is an advanced radiation treatment that uses proton beams to irradiate and destroy tumor cells. Unlike traditional photon radiation, proton beams exhibit the unique "Bragg Peak" characteristic.
The protons are accelerated to about 70% of the speed of light using specialized equipment like synchrotrons or cyclotrons, then precisely guided to the tumor site. Before reaching the tumor, the beam releases minimal energy, causing little damage to surrounding tissues. At the tumor location, it releases all its energy instantly, forming a peak that precisely destroys cancer cell DNA.
